Frozen 2, honest review with minor spoilers

Frozen 2, the sequel to the Disney animated movie Frozen, follows three years after the original was made. This story revolves around the two sisters Elsa and Anna and their friends journey to find the truth about Arendelle, and also to discover the answers behind the voice calling Elsa. Frozen 2 has hit a record once again being the number one movie at the box office. But was it really as good as the people and critics say?

What was Fantastic about this Movie?

As a fan of the original movie, I had high hopes for what was in store for the land of Arendelle. While watching the movie there were a few things which stood out to me. This movie, for obvious reasons, was visually stunning. As I was watching, my jaw couldn’t help but drop all the way to the floor. The animation for Frozen 2 has come a long way sense the first movie, and the particle effects were absolutely gorgeous and the characters just felt more real to me. Something I also appreciated was the world building. I feel as if the first movie was to allow the audience to get to know the characters and let us get used to the world where characters lived. However in the second movie they took a lot of time to let the world evolve, while also diving into the past and future for the franchise. This was very important, and I’m glad they did this in the second movie. Lastly I wanted to bring up the amazing songs they made for this movie. All were very enjoyable and they fit perfectly with the characters and the point they were in the movie. I thought the music was one reason this movie was so liked by the general public because of how catchy they all were.

What were the problems in the movie?

Even though this movie was very good overall, I did see some issues which popped up throughout the movie. Something that bothered me about this movie was the lack of a true antagonist. While this movie still did well without one, I felt as if the movie dragged because of it. Maybe this was only done to explain the past so that the future movie can build off of this new found information. Still, I hope now that many of the questions were solved we can have strong antagonist in the third movie. Another issue I saw was the lack of screen time for Kristof in the movie. Even though he got his own song, I felt as if they gave him no reason to be shown in the movie other than him trying to propose to Anna. It would have been nice if they had given him more time to go on his own journey, instead of only being shown if it was necessary. I personally love his character, and I thought they did his character dirty in this movie. I also thought they could have used the message of men being venerable throughout the film so it would be more prominent. Lastly something that really annoyed me was how Anna was constantly misinterpreting Kristof’s proposals. I know what they were trying to do, but it was so overused that it was quite bothersome to watch.

Final thoughts

I definitely think this movie is worth watching. The characters, music, and world building make this movie so interesting to watch and dive into. I loved watching the characters change and find themselves, and also see more amazing possibilities. The art is also incredible, and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys beautiful animation. This movie is a good second movie for an already amazing franchise, and I cant wait to see what this world has in store for us in the future.

Steven Universe Future, Promo Breakdown

Like many other people in the Steven Universe fandom, I want to break down this new promo running on the Cartoon Network and help make sense of what is being shown. I will be going from panel to panel explaining what I think is important, and what we should be paying attention to.

The Car shots

The first part of the promo is Steven swinging his keas and showing off his car. I think it’s nice to begin with such a shot because it reminds us Steven is now 16 and has his permit. Steven puts on some music and lets a new gem into his car, telling her to watch her head. If I had to guess, I would think she is one of the gems called Big by Bismuth as one of the original Crystal Gems, but it may also be someone new. The next shot was a photo of the Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl. Steven then narrates that ” Life is a little different these days” while showing him driving his car to the new Beach City or also called New Home world. I believe they did this to show how much Steven and Beach city has grown sense the beginning of the show.

In Beach City

After the car shot it cuts off to Garnet teaching some sort of class. It almost looks as if she is teaching four gems to balance on their head with pillows. Steven is also there, doing a handstand as the gem we saw before watches them. While looking at the gems you can see one is an opal and one is a ruby. This ruby may be one of gems from the Ruby crew. We can also see Nephrite, who may also be from Centipedle’s original team. Before the shot ends you can hear Steven say “We’re all safe to explore our dreams” which I believe is foreshadowing for an opposite reality. This shot is followed by an art class of sorts, where Vidalia is watching Blue Pearl, another Nephrite, and two gems we don’t know draw Yellow Pearl. I just found this shot really cute because we know how much Blue Pearl loves to draw, and how much Yellow Pearl loves to be the center of attention. Lastly you can see Steven and the new gem looking at Bismuth making something in her workspace with the Heaven and Earth Beetle’s on her hand. This ties it back to Steven Universe the Movie, where Bismuth saves the Heaven and Earth Beetle’s from being crushed.

Stevens Nightmare

The mood quickly changes as it cuts to fast clips of Steven mad and then in shock covering his mouth. This is significant because Steven being the kind and caring person he is, would not get angry unless it was something involving the people he loves. This makes me think someone has hurt Connie or Greg, or maybe the main Crystal Gems. The next shot shows Steven putting his hand on a giant hand pad which looks similar to the one we see when we first meet Peridot in the episode Warp Tour. In the background Steven’s words are echoing. It then cuts to Rose/Pink Diamond in her first Quartz form going through a door. By the color and shape of the background it could be in the human zoo. This clip might be of her going into the room of the bubbled Rose Quartz soldiers. Her face is very blank and it almost gives her an evil look with the dark shading. The following shot shows Steven covering his ears and then Pink Pearl gazing off with a picture of Pink Dimond in the background. This symbolizes that Pink Pearl still loves Pink Dimond even after she left her for another Pearl. This rooted down manipulation that Pink Dimond uses on almost everyone around her causes so much damage to the people it influences. Pink Pearl is not an exception. This transitions to Steven turning off Rose’s tape to him while his voice states “We can finally put the past behind us.” Showing that no matter what he says the past is still coming back to haunt him.

Character/ Antagonist shot

The next thing we see is a now uncorrupted Jasper revealing herself from under a cloth. Like I said in my last article, this clip shows that Jasper will have a large role in the upcoming season. Quickly after that you see Pink Pearl smiling strangely as the crack in her eye gets larger. I am not sure what this shows other than she might be being mind controlled. However I don’t think this time it was the cause of White Dimond, but another source. It might also be another form of corruption. This shot follows by Jasper laughing and throwing a punch at someone. While looking at her facial expressions and her uncontrolled laugh, she almost looks insane, maybe thriving off of revenge and power. Next we see a small clip of the Quartz soldiers from the human zoo, followed by a new fusion. The new fusion looks to be what was expected, Aquamarine and Eyeball shown we met in the last few seasons. It could be two different gems but knowing their shared past with Seven I highly doubt it.

Final shots

The last clips start with a shot of Amethyst’s eyes gleaming. I’m not sure of the significance of this shot other than it looks similar to how Pink Pearls eyes shimmer while she thought about Pink Dimond. This follows to a clip of Pink Pearl being shielded by Pearl from an explosion or a building collapsing. From the color scheme and castle like stature I would guess this was on Home World and not on Beach City. This next shot is an extremely interesting one. it shows Jasper holding Steven while he cries. If you look at Steven closely you can see that he is starting to glow pink. as the clip goes on he gets more and more pink and his face turns from a look of pain to now anger. Fully pink Steven gets out his shield while Jasper says “You are not my diamond.” What I believe this shows is the transition of regular Steven to none other than Pink Steven. This clip is used to show that Steven is not Pink Dimond but his own powerful being, while also still having Pink Dimond be a part of him. It also allowed for a lot of fans wish for his return for the end of the series. The last clip that we see is the heart of the temple turning from a dark red to green. This makes me think the temple has somehow been corrupted or is being destroyed. The heart of the temple is important after all, and if it gets damaged it will definitely cause a lot of conflict in the future.

Steven Universe Future, whats next?

Steven Universe, a Cartoon Network animated TV show created by Rebecca Sugar is an amazing story about one special boy, his family of alien space rocks, and his many friends of beach city. This show is filled with unexpected twists, fun characters, beautiful music, and amazing graphics. After being aired since 2013, their final season has almost begun. And just like every season they leave us with a lot of questions to still be answered. In this post I will brake down what i think will be shown in Steven Universe Future. ( Spoiler warning of content of the opining of the new season, Steven Universe the movie, and the last few seasons. )

Jasper Redemption arc

While looking at the new opening for Steven Universe Future, there is a panel showing the antagonist of the season, Jasper. She seems to have a pretty significant role. The panel features a few other gems that we don’t know yet, such as two lazuli, an aquamarine fusion, a mutant watermelon Steven, a controlled White Dimond, and a giant worm like creature. Jasper stands in the front showing a power pose at the camera. Going along with what we already know about Jasper’s character, it would not surprise me if she decides to create a gem rebellion after being confronted with the news of Rose being Pink Dimond. Because of her complete devotion to her Dimond, even going to the point of corrupting herself for her revenge, it would be devastating for her to hear that her enemy was actually the person she loved most. Not only that, but her half human son gets the opportunity to take the position that she once had when Jasper was still at her command. As someone who was always interested in Jasper’s character, I think that it would be very cool for her to once again get a more significant role as the main antagonist, and also getting an redemption arc at the end of the series.

More Scenes with the now uncorrupted gems

More scenes is a small hope that I have for the new season because of the lack of dialogue in the Steven Universe the Movie. While watching the show, we are given little information on the original crystal gems such as the ones called Bigs, Snowflake etc. It would be amazing if we can see these gems interact with Bismuth, Garnet, and Pearl in the new season. I feel it would be a great way to tie in the crystals gems past and future. I also want to be able to see more of Centipeetle and her team on home world or in beach city chomping on some potato chips. 🙂

16 year old Steven and friends

As someone who was totally for the two year time skip, I’m extremely exited to see Steven enjoying being a teenager. From the opening we can see Steven is driving Gregs tondi supremo which was introduced in the episode Beach City Drift. I also believe we have not seen the last of Steven and the Cool Kids, and also Sadie and Lars. We can also see in the movie that Connie and Steven’s relationship is starting to bloom from a unbreakable friendship to a cute teenage romance. I think these two characters are cute together either way, but it would be good to see how their relationship will be moving forward in the last season.

New Fusions

Over the last season and movie, there has been a lot of new fusions being introduced to us. One of the newest being the fusion of Greg and Steven which was shown in the movie. I believe that in the upcoming season we will see more of the new fusions in action, and also fusions we have not seen before in the show so far. One being the fusion of Lapis and Peridot, Pearl and Bismuth, Steven and one of the Barn mates, or maybe even a fusion of two of the diamonds. Because of the huge amount of possibilities, we will have to wait and see what the Cruniverse has in store for us.

Amazing Music and Dance numbers

We all know it wouldn’t be a true Steven Universe ending if it didn’t have plenty of amazing music to go along with it. Something I believe has really stood out about this show is how well written the music is, and how it makes the world more enjoyable. Up to this point, I have not had a song I dislike. I’ve probably listened to every song on repeat at least once. And I know for a fact this season will not be the exception.

Homeworld

Lastly, I think this season will give us more information about Home World, and the other colonies under the Diamonds rule. There are a lot of theories about who created the Diamonds, and what the other colonies are like. In the movie, it also stated a lot of the colonies under the Dimond authority were liberated so it would be nice to get a little insight their process. I love the Diamonds characters, but I don’t believe they have actually been redeemed fully yet. A few more episodes in space will help Steven, and see them progress to the leaders we all want them to become.
